![]() The restaurant is in a strip mall and, while nothing fancy, it is a pretty authentic Peruvian restaurant. My wife is originally from Peru and we decided to see if there were any Peruvian restaurants locally and found La Candela. We happened to be down on Long Island for a family funeral. I truly advise whoever is reading this to stay at La Candela, and I hope you find it as beautiful as I did. The experience was incredible, and even though I accidentally threw my phone into the ocean, La Candela was still an extremely happy memory for me. Hugo Arévalo even showed us one of his Pablo Neruda documentaries that he made while traveling with the famous poet in the early 70s. It brought history alive for us, letting us know more about Chile than we can read in books. ![]() Afterwards, she talked with us, telling us the story of her life, her friendship with Pablo Neruda, and highlights from her career. Charo Cofré performed for our group, and her voice was incredible. But the food wasn't the highlight of the trip, the best part was meeting Charo Cofré and Hugo Arévalo. The wait staff was incredible, seeming to know what I wanted before I did. ![]() I'm a picky eater, and even I loved the food. I stayed for a night at La Candela, having two meals there, and I already want to visit there again. They do have a local flyer of activities that can be mailed or within the library for viewing along with the website for a variety of activities and available classes.When I first arrived at La Candela, I didn't really know what to expect, but now I wouldn't exchange that experience for anything. The library itself is old and may be an Historical site. Such courtesy to allow those few people to enter and settle before the many others who came would be nice. I find it disappointing that the Library would have such a performance and NOT have books for the kids to share.Īlso important to know, if there is any reason of difficulty to get down stairs, either for handicap or people with a baby in a stroller, both of which were the case, that there had been no initial direction to the small elevator in the back past Reference and when they finally did mention it, with the influx of people that filled the rows of set up seats in the room, they did not mention, that once in the elevator to, hit B for basement instead of CR for Community Room which still brings one to stairs to get to the lower room. I felt they should have had a collection of books to take out for this new generation of children. There have been so many of the well-known puppets and shows with puppets that have been broadcast over the years. Sadly, their-children's Librarians and Reference: did not seem to know who this amazing Star and forever sidekick Lamb-chop was. So, I asked what books they had on puppetry. The children's area does have some Legos, Puzzles, stuffed animals and of course some books. Earlier visitors must keep busy as no numbers are given out before the stated time. There is either a sign up on line, OR, as in this case a come 15 minutes before to the children's library to get a ticket (Doesn't matter what number) then either go down stairs at the entrance, or through the back door to the basement level Community Room. She was so perfect that I asked later if it was rehearsed to his reply of no. While he asked for a Dad without reply, one lovely mom came up to the stage. His finally of bringing a guest up from the audience is the topping on the cake. He did a smooth job of making his friends real to the audience. ![]() He started that many years ago that he saw a street performer and was taken with learning ventriloquism. A one-hour long performance was just the right amount of time. The man has charm as he introduces various puppet sidekicks and gets the audience of children involved in the tried and true antics his scary monster who is really a fun monster does a version of Simon/ monster says. Ventriloquist and puppeteer show enjoyable for all ages.
